Joel A. Dolci, CAE - Biographical Sketch

Joel A. Dolci, CAE* is President and Chief Executive Officer of Dolci Management Services, Inc. (DMS), a highly specialized business enterprise engaged in providing the time and talent required to manage the affairs of a group of non-competing voluntary associations. He is also President of Dolci Conference and Show Management, a firm which produces special events, conferences, conventions and trade shows, and has hosted such dignitaries as President Reagan, Governor Cuomo, Mayor Koch and former secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole, among others. Mr. Dolci is a highly skilled communicator with proven talents as a speaker, lecturer, researcher, fundraiser and director. He is experienced in all phases of general administration, staff volunteer training, coordination of volunteer activities, program promotion and community relations

From March 1963 to February 1978, he was Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York, Inc., the largest Better Business bureau in the world. During his 15-year tenure, he led the bureau in more than quadrupling its size from an annual budget of $500,000 to an excess of $2,500,000 in 1978. Mr. Dolci also served as Vice President and Secretary of the education and research Foundation of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York, Inc.

Since 1980 he has provided the leadership and support in working with City officials in an effort to stem the tide of associations leaving New York City. On March 2, 1993 Mayor David Dinkins announced the official opening of the "Association Center of New York City", the first project of its kind in the United States, designed especially for the nonprofit association community. The project, spearheaded by Mr. Dolci, was developed in a public-private partnership between New York City, and NYSAE and marked the beginning of the end of the exodus of associations from New York City.

In 1996, at the request of Governor Pataki, he developed the "Industry Blueprint for Growing the Association Community in New York State". The Blueprint identified the over $7 billion economic impact of the New York association industry in the state of New York and resulted in the launching of a national marketing campaign entitled, "New York Loves Associations". The campaign developed in partnership with NYSAE, The Empire State Development Corporation, and the Empire State Business Alliance targeted over 10,000 associations across America and is continuously attracting the establishment of new association headquarters to New York State.

Prior to joining the Better Business Bureau, Mr. Dolci was associated with the Olivetti Underwood Corporation from 1961-1963, and was Assistant Director of the New York School of Announcing and Speech from 1958 - 1961. In 1955, and until he joined the New York School of Announcing and Speech, he was a radio announcer on Radio Station WMGM in New York City and producer of several packaged radio programs which were broadcast in such countries as Monrovia, West Africa, Japan and the Caribbean Islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. Mr. Dolci has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Staten Island Children's Museum. He served on the New York Tourism 2000 Committee, which provided a comprehensive long- range assessment of the needs of the New York City tourism infrastructure. Mr. Dolci also served on the New York City/NYSAE Marketing Task Force appointed by Mayor Dinkins to retain associations in New York City and attract new associations to the city. In June 2005 he served as Finance Committee Chairman & Treasurer of the Greater New York Billy Graham Final Crusade held in Flushing Meadows Park.

Mr. Dolci presently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of NYC & Company. He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Meeting Planners International (MPI), Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), and the International Association of Exposition Managers (IAEM).
